Awarded 'Outstanding' rating by Ofsted, Kendal College specialises in further and higher education, working closely with local employers to provide specialist vocational training programmes. Kendal is a partner college of the University of Cumbria and the University of Central Lancashire. The college has a strong reputation in accountancy, business, catering, engineering, hospitality, information technology, sports and active leisure.
A further education college located in Barrow-in-Furness, it provides a wide range of courses for apprentices, schools leavers and university courses in association with the University of Cumbria, University of Central Lancashire and Lancaster University. The college also offers adult education and business development.
The University of Cumbria has a campus in South Lakeland at Ambleside, with additional sites at Carlisle, Newton Rigg, Penrith and Lancaster, along with a specialist teacher education centre in London. The University was formed in 2007 from an amalgamation of St Martin's College, Cumbria Institute of the Arts and the Cumbrian campuses of the University of Central Lancashire.
Located close to the M6 motorway and easily accessible from all of South Lakeland, Lancaster University is ranked 9th out of over 100 universities (The Times ‘Good University Guide 2012’). Lancaster is a collegiate university with eight undergraduate colleges on campus along with a ninth for graduates.
